Packaging Recovery Note is an important part of the Producer Responsibility Obligations and is issued by accredited reprocessors when they have recovered and recycled a tonne of packaging material. Obligated companies or Compliance Schemes need to buy these PRN documents to prove waste packaging material has been recycled into a new product.

The accredited reprocessor: Recycle and recover packaging materials eligible to issue and sell PRN to obligated companies or Compliance Schemes, generally involve an accredited recycler or exporter of waste.

Obligated companies or Compliance Schemes: have responsibility for packaging recycling and recovery, use the Packaging Recovery Note to prove that packaging material has been recycled on their behalf, or their members behalf.
