But after being used, polystyrene packaging and panels often become discarded, however, polystyrene recycling can achieve a second life if recycled.

High space cost of polystyrene waste

Expanded polystyrene waste is light weight and big in size, it occupies a lot of space of which can mean an increase in

warehouse size to store waste. Space can be better utilized if polystyrene waste can be condensed.

High transportation costs of polystyrene waste
Loose polystyrene waste will mean less waste can fit in to each disposal truck, therefore meaning, more loads need to be collected. Without condensing, one truck can usually only load around 300-800kgs.

ESG requirement
The global waste problem is becoming worse and worse, and there is now a conscious effort from companies realizing their responsibility to contribute to the solution. The UK government is also pushing ESG (Environment, Social and Governance).

Sell waste at a better price
Loose expanded polystyrene waste rebates are often very low or even free, but after compacting or melting, the rebate price can reach between 500-700£ per ton. After further processing of pellets, the price of recycled pellets can reach between 1200-1600£(average price during 2019-2022)

But how do we recycle polystyrene waste efficiently?
