How to recycle expanded polypropylene with GREENMAX compactor
Is Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) Recyclable?
EPP is a very flexible foam with various qualities: it is extremely solid, flexible, has a high impact resistance, supplies thermal insulation as well as it is water repellent. This makes it a popular material to use for packaging of products and also food. Its strength, light weight as well as energy absorbent properties makes it a popular material in the vehicle industry. Today a lot of EPP is sent to landfills after its first use, since EPP is 100 % recyclable and can be recycled in a very easy method. Luckily the environmental benefits from EPP rececyling are currently recognized and the demand for recycled EPP is presently rising. A screw compactor from GREENMAX can ease the handling of EPP waste and smooth the process of EPP recycling.
With a GREENMAX compactor you can turn your EPP waste into the recycling stream as well as save money on storage, transportation, and costs for disposing of your EPP waste. Moreover, you can sell your compressed EPP blocks to recyclers and really Turn your waste to value!
How to Recycle EPP with a GREENMAX Compactor
Step 1: Collect the waste
The first step in expanded polypropylene recycling lays in collecting the waste as well as separating the expanded polypropylene from other waste. The closer the EPP waste is to the GREENMAX compactor, the smaller the transport costs of the uncompacted EPP will be.
Afterwards the EPP has to be sorted according to density, as the density figures out which GREENMAX recycling machine you will require to be able to compact the product. Low density EPP can be compressed in the same machine as EPS, whereas high density expanded polypropylene needs a machine with a melting chamber to create cohesive blocks.
Step 2: Compaction in the GREENMAX Screw Compactor
When the EPP has been accumulated, isolated from other waste and also sorted according to its density, it is time to feed the EPP to the suitable GREENMAX machine. This can be done either manually into the hopper or using a conveyor belt. The EPP is fed into a durable pre-crusher which shreds the EPP. The screw compact the low density EPP into solid blocks with a density of approximately 350 kg/m3. The high density EPP will certainly be compacted in the same way, but a melting chamber will melt the surface area of the block to make sure a stable block.
Step 3: Pack and sell the compacted EPP
When the compacted EPP exits the GREENMAX recycling machine, it will be in the type of solid square blocks. These blocks can be sold to recycling companies or sold directly to GREENMAX.
